BRUCE AVERY: We at Avery & Upton are a family law firm. There are three of us-my daughter, who practices as my partner, and then we have an associate. We provide the full range of family law services-divorce, child support, child custody, paternity-type problems. We do everything from collaborative practice to negotiation to mediation to full litigation. I was first admitted to the Bar back in 1976, and I've been practicing various types of the law since then, and doing family law since 1992. One of the things we do as attorneys is we act as guides through the legal process. In doing that, we can reduce the amount of headache and heartache that people go through that's caused by the system. The whole process of family law has a lot of little hidden pitfalls-places where people can make what seems like a very innocent and small decision, it can have a very large financial impact. We believe it's important that our clients understand that this is their life that we're dealing with. It's not ours. It's for them, it's for their children, and no matter what way they choose to go through their divorce or through their other family law problem, it can be done in a relatively compassionate way, and we believe that we do that.
