Kelsey Grammer and ex-wife Camille end child custody dispute

Fans in Maryland familiar with sitcoms such as "Cheers" and "Frasier" may be interested to know that Kelsey Grammer and his ex-wife Camille recently finalized their child custody agreement after a 10-month battle.

The children's mother will be the primary caregiver of the couple's two young children. Grammer, best known for portraying the television character "Frasier," was granted visitation. The two were married for thirteen years.

Determining child custody is often one of the most difficult parts of a divorce. It can be tough on both the parents and the children. Because it is so emotional, it is often best to leave the direct negotiations to the parties' respective attorneys. Unnecessary face-to-face confrontations about child custody can, in some cases, do more harm than good.

In addition to a bitter child custody dispute, the former couple also went through a very public divorce. The two finalized their divorce in 2011, but Grammer wanted to expedite the settlement and make the divorce official so that he could marry his girlfriend, Kayte Walsh. Grammer married the 32 year old last February. Walsh is now pregnant with twins.

Grammer and his ex-wife have yet to agree on a financial settlement. Camille reportedly rejected a previous $30 million settlement offer in which Grammer asked to be free from having to pay alimony or child support. Camille has reportedly asked for at least $50 million. With this much money at stake, it is likely that both sides have experienced lawyers representing their interests.

Although it may be difficult to relate to celebrities, this story illustrates how difficult family law matters can be. Residents in Maryland heading for divorce would do well to consult with an attorney who can work on their behalf to come to a resolution that is fair for everyone involved.
